What is Drawing and Talking?
Drawing and Talking is a therapeutic approach designed to help individuals express and process emotions that they may find difficult to verbalise. This simple yet powerful technique allows people to use drawing as a creative tool to communicate what is happening inside their minds. It is an evidence-based intervention grounded in Jungian and Attachment theories, offering a gentle, non-cognitive, and non-threatening way to access deep-seated feelings.
The Process
During a typical Drawing and Talking session, I invite you to draw freely, without any interpretation or analysis from me. The drawing itself is never about artistic ability; instead, it is about creating a quiet space for your subconscious mind to surface. Once the drawing is complete, you are welcome to talk through your creation with me at your own pace.
Why it Works
This approach works on the principle that once you can externalise your feelings and experiences onto paper, you are better able to understand and navigate them. The emotions expressed in your drawings trigger a powerful healing mechanism in the mind. By working through all stages of this intervention, you can find a symbolic resolution that heals old hurts. This enables you to move forward and thrive socially and emotionally, rather than re-living the past.
